How I Plan on Becoming a Morning Person and Why

Last Fall I had started a series called Edit your Life, a series that would follow my journey of “editing” my life and making changes. My hope was to also encourage someone to do the same. That series quickly ended after two posts and then I didn’t post anything again until May.

I had consistently posted for a year and then I just lost the motivation for it. I try not to put pressure on myself to create content because this blog space is a creative outlet for myself.

I say all that to say, I’ve started the process again to edit my life since I realized it will be a constant cycle in life to push myself toward growth. The first task is tackling waking up early. I have read articles about the benefits of waking up early and then articles on those who don’t put pressure on themselves to become a morning person. I say do what works best for you. If you have that privilege of a more flexible schedule and have your productive hours not be in the early morning, do it. Even if you do have a more fixed schedule and are more productive at night, that’s fine too. I just believe its not the best for me as I work a 9-5 job. A big part of my day will be spent at work. I believe the best thing for me would be to train myself to wake up earlier despite how much I prefer sleeping in everyday.

Here are the reasons I want to wake up earlier and become a morning person.

My face when the alarm goes off and I have to get out bed.

1. Tired of being in a rush: Whenever I do get up earlier, the day just starts off better versus rushing to get out the door to work. It’s nice to be able to sit down and eat breakfast, read or do a few household tasks beforehand.

2. Better time management of the day: Instead of being focused on getting tasks done; getting to sleep early or things that pop up last minute, if I did things before work my time would be better managed.

But if you’re going to make a change, you need to make a plan or the habit continues.

Here are things I want to do to help me become a morning person:

1. Gradually not cold turkey: waking up earlier in stages by 15 minute increments

2. Finding natural remedies to help with sleeping

3.Strick no phone before bed 1 hour before bed policy

4.Prep things evening before when I’m going in to the office (my bag and outfit for the day)

Let me know if you’re a morning person or if you just prefer being a night owl.
