The last half of 2018, I decided to pick up reading again. I use to read so much growing up. As life happened, I put that on the back burner and one day I woke up and had this urge to read a book. I missed being transported to another world when reading as a child. I’m the kind of person that will block everything out and even have visceral reactions as I’m reading.
One of my goals of 2019 is to read 19 books. One way I plan on reaching that goal is to finally follow the Paper and Glam book club. I’ve joined every year but have only read a couple from the list. My sister is way more into reading than me and I definitely have asked for book recommendations.
Two books that my sister recommended to me are Homegoing and The Sun is Also a Star. Both are excellent reads that you should put on your list, but Homegoing actually had me shed a tear.
Homegoing is a story of two half sisters from different villages in Ghana. It follows their story and their descendants through different generations. It is a very moving and powerful story of the effects of slavery, with each chapter dedicated to a person’s story.
The Sun is Also a Star is a young adult romance which dives in to fate, love and God as a Jamaican-American girl meets a Korean-American boy on the day she is due to be deported.
My February Reading List
I only read one chapter in the January book selection. I know, it’s terrible but it hasn’t really grabbed my attention. I do want to finish it for the sake of reading each book this year in the club.
February’s selection is a continuation of The Notebook story. I do look forward to reading this as I usually enjoy Nicholas Spark’s writing.
Another book, I have yet to finish despite going to an event with the author talking about this book. I have enjoyed it so far, but its slow going as it has caused me to evaluate myself.
Yes, I’m late to the bandwagon but I’m finally reading the Harry Potter series. I would like to finish book 3 this month.
